Real Madrid’s Isco Undergoes Appendectomy

Real Madrid infielder Isco is likely to miss Real Madrid’s game against Sevilla on Wednesday, and may also miss the derbi against Atletico Madrid this Saturday, after undergoing an appendectomy.

Isco underwent a successful operation for acute appendicitis at the Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital, per a club announcement.

“Our player Isco was operated on successfully for acute appendicitis at the Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital,” Real Madrid posted on Twitter. “The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Real Madrid medical services. His recovery will continue to be assessed.”

“Isco suffered discomfort in his stomach and it seems it’s appendicitis and he will have an operation,” Lopetegui said during a news conference on Tuesday (h/t ESPN FC).

Lopetegui said he did not have a chance to speak to Isco before he went to hospital on Tuesday.

Lopetegui is also unsure about the status of defender Dani Carvajal, who also missed training and will not feature against Sevilla.

“We’ll see,” Lopetegui said. “He had an overload that didn’t improve like we hoped and we have to wait. For this game [against Sevilla], he is out.”
