The Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) has offered a job to the member of Croatia’s coaching staff who was sacked for dedicating his country’s World Cup victory over Russia to the people of Ukraine.
Coaching assistant and former Croatia international Ognjen Vukojevic, was ousted after posting the video to social media, saying, “This victory is for Dynamo [Kiev, his former club] and Ukraine.”
“We hold a clearly expressed position of supporting our friends,” FFU president Andrei Paveloko said (h/t ESPN FC). “We have offered both legal and financial support for Ognjen and Vida.
“I personally, as well as the FFU management, have made a decision to pay off Ognjen’s pending fine and offer him a job with the FFU.”
“It was definitely no political message, but a simple thank you for all the support from Ukraine, where Vukojevic and I spent a number of years” defender Domagoj Vida said.
